Tresemme Naturals vs Vo5 as a leave in...

I recently decided to search for a new leave in condtioner.  I was using Tresemme Naturals  conditioner as my leave in for quite awhile.  That conditioner has been amaznig as a leave in :)  It provides excellent slip for detangling.  It also leaves the hair moisturized when being used as a leave in or a rinse out conditioner.  When used as a styler, it provides a nice hold without the crunch of a strong gel.  So yeah, this stuff is awesome lol.  So why was I looking for something else?  The fragrance lol.  I wanted a better scent left on my hair  LOL .  The tresemme doesn't smell bad at all but it doesn't leave my hair smelling fresh for very long either.  So enter VO5 Strawberries and Cream moisture milks conditioner!

I immediately knew that my hair would love this conditioner as a leave in when I was doing my normal twistout routine. when twisting my hair, it gave a nice slip and worked well with my aloe vera gel. When I removed my twists, my hair was shiny, soft, and smelled much better :)  My twistout definition was "poppin"  and the hold was awesome just like the Tresemme!    I thought I had found my replacement leave in conditioner...until i started getting the itchies :( .  Since I use "rinse out" conditioners as leave ins, I try to avoid getting a lot on my scalp because it can cause my scalp to itch.  Even though I completely avoided my scalp each time when using the Vo5, my scalp still itched a lot.  I tried using the Vo5 as a leave in several more times to make sure it wasn't a one time thing, and the same thing happened.  (I went back to the Tresemme for the" final test," lol, and I did not have an itchy scalp...)

Needless to say I was pretty bummed :(  But I know that stopping the use of a product  that clearly was going to cause problems if I left it in my hair as a leave in, was best.   Besides, the Vo5 is a staple of mine for cowashing so all was not lost LOL.   Remember to stick to techniques and products that WORK for your hair.  It's fine to venture out and try new stuff...besides there's soo many tempting options out there... but just know that sometimes you hair will be like,
"What is this?  What happened to the tried and true products you were using?  And how are you expecting me to act with this new stuff?  LOL"     If your hair catches an "attitude" with a product don't feel bad, your not alone!  LOL   So, it looks like the Tresemme Naturals Conditioner has won!  I will continue using it as my leave in conditioner for the time being :)

The fragrance in the Vo5 is probably what made your scalp itch. I love that Strawberry conditioner but the fragrance is so strong, I just know there's a lot of fragrance in there. Fragrances are proprietary compounds. I like the Cream of Nature Leave In cream Conditioner. It's more expensive than Tresseme but the slip is amazing.

Hi!
You might be right about the fragrance thing, I have really bad allergies as it is! LOL I still am able to use the Vo5 for my cowashes so I'm happy about that! I've never tried the cream of nature leave in but when I use to use the shampoo and conditioner when I was relaxed my hair did well with it. When they changed the formula my scalp itched for awhile whenIi used it....but then it stop reacting that way. lol My head and hair is just picky!

hey! isnt it fustrating trying to try new products?I try to use new products for my hair since its dry and it seems to still have problems. My mom thinks I should use something in the back for my hair to help it and im not sure what to use.I tried herbal essense conditioner and I think the tressmee does work better.I just hate having a product I dont really use feel wasted. What do you about products that you dont really like but you tried it out because you heard reviews but then it didnt work for your hair?I think some old stuff I used to use works on my hair alot but I heard it isnt good for your hair but I really wonder is it really bad or not? It's called hawaiin silky. What doyou think about products that people say are bad like that have petrolum oil,etc but it seems to work on your hair?Im not sure what's good for my hair and whats bad for my hair really because it still seems dry.

Hi lanell!
I hvae gone through many "product junkie" phases over the years lol. I would hold on to my products for years before throwing them out. I try to do frequent run throughs of my products to see how I honestly feel about it. If I have bad memories from using it I throw it out lol. (This is hard to do, I know!) I've heard about hawaiin silky working well on many people's hair, natural and relaxed and I recently looked into a gel or activator they had because someone did a rave review on it. But I wasn't a fan of the ingredients so I passed on it. I do think however, if you like a product and it works for your hair....use it. Every one is different. Now in my case, my hair has done better since avoiding silicones and mineral oil etc. But some may have awesome results! I think if your hair seems to like a product but it still feels dry...or you have to apply product often....your hair may need something better. This is what happened when I was relaxed and transitioning. The products that I use to use had things in it that made it seem like my hair was kool and healthy.....and in reality it was FAR from it.

to lanell:
Nowadays, I think it's beneficial not only for hair but for health to try to choose safe products. Your products don't have to be "all natural" all the time. Try to look into oils, butters, silicone free conditioners and alcohol free gels. Your hair may take some time to adjust to the new changes. When I first started cowashing I had to throw an every now and then shampoo in the mix because my scalp wasn't used to the change. But try to slowly wean your hair into a better regimin. I've learned that simple has been the best for my hair. Also price doesn't matter. Things don't have to be expensive to work. Read the labels before buying something. Last, doing a TON of research and watching video product reviews from people with similar hair types to yours, will help you make good decisions when choosing products. Sorry for the long response lol. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions :) Be blessed!

Hi lanell!
I have both of those products under my sink as well! Lol. My hair does well with them during the summer. The have glycerin in them so it may make your hair feel drier depending on your climate. So the products may not neccessisarily be bad for your hair...but they may work better during different seasons. So just try and see how they work :) I think avocado butter changed the game for my hair lol. Since cowashing, I don't have to moisturize daily anymore :). I use olive oil, avocado butter, tresemme naturals conditioner, and shea moisture hold and shine moisture mist on my cowash days. I will mist my hair lightly with the shea moisture for added shine and scent other than that. I hope this helps!

Your allergies could also be from a particular ingredient in the VO5 Moisture Milks conditioner called Red #4 aka Carmine aka Cochineal Extract which is crushed Cochineal Beetle to give the product it's pinkish color. This ingredient is in a lot of "natural" products including makeup, lotions, food, and hair products. Several VO5 conditioners have it. Burt's Bees use it in a lot of there makeup including lip glosses. Bath and Bodyworks started adding it to some of their new formulations. Nowadays, you have to look for "cruelty free" in addition to "natural".
