Shrinkage Is Real! lol

LOL!!!  Okay, so I know this looks crazy, after all, this was pretty early in the morning so I was still puffy and tired, but I HAD to share this!  I definitely was shocked at how long my hair is actually getting because I have soo much shrinkage.  I have been playing around with the Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade and It gives my fro some serious stretch!  I absolutely love the fact that the texture of my hair can go from SUPER tight to a FREEFORM stretch with minimal manipulation. :D   Whateva' your texture is, ROCK IT!!!

How do you feel about your shrinkage?

Hi Crystal,
How are you? I am writing to you from Canada...i have been natural for almost 4 yrs and i am loving it except the shrinkage, I hate shrinkage. I love love love your blog and look forward to getting ideas, our texture is almost the same and the same length as well, unfortunately some of the products you love are not available in Canada which really sucks.
Thanks for all your ideas you are so relatable....take care!!!!!
BO

Hey Beverley!
Thank you!!! I'm glad to hear that you you like this blog! Try to embrace your shrinkage :D After all, it is one major thing that makes our hair type stand out in such an awesome way! With a texture that shrinks there are endless possibilities as to what you can do with it! Stay encouraged!!!

I love your videos! Your hair is growing so beautifully :) I agree, shrinkage is a beautiful, unique aspect of natural African/African-American hair and something to be embraced. We have very similar hair types/textures, but I feel like my growth, or I guess my length, has stalled. I am wondering whether you have any tips for length retention?

Hey Rachael!
Thank you very much!!!
Sometimes your hair can be responding to a change internally or externally. Have you started any new vitamins or medications? Diet changes? Hair regimen changes? Different products? Are you using the same thing as before? How are you handling your hair? For example are you manipulating it more or doing protective styles that you didn't do before etc?
Look into things like this to see if you can narrow down what may be the cause of the lack of growth or retention. As always moisture is like one of the biggest things that matter. So make sure your moisture levels are high and that you're not doing things that have lots of tension and manipulation involved :)

Isn't it awesome to see how long your hair actually is? Shrinkage can be so deceiving!

I absolutely love my shrinkage as well. I too, am amazed at my length. I have been playing around with protective styles specifically two strand twist that I do myself and when I take them down (i usually leave them in about 4-5 weeks) I am amazed ( along with my husband lol) at the length. Your hair is growing beautifully, keep doing whatever you are doing because it is working..... God Bless

Hi, I am a newbie on my natural hair journey. I did the big chop in May of this year. My TWA pretty much stays in shrunken state. Thanks for the tip about the goodie ouch-less clips. They help me with shrinkage. I am so grateful for all the natural hair care information you share on YouTube and this blog!
