My Little Experiment...

Hair picked out before shrinkage(left) Dry hair after shrinkage (right)
So last night I decided to cowash my hair and do a little experiment with my regimen.  I wanted to see my shrinkage.  It's been quite some time since I allowed that to happen and I was curious. On the other hand I was also not looking forward to the dry and dull appearance my hair tends to take on when I allow it to fully shrink.  So this time I decided to do something different.  I decided to only use my EVOO and my avocado butter in my hair after cowashing.  NO gel and NO leave in conditioner!   I just used more avocado butter than I usually do.  (That stuff is serious ladies! )   I know it sounds crazy but I wanted to see what would happen if I only used oil based products and not water based.  Would my hair shrink any less?  I was hopeful.....but nope it still shrunk. LOL   I was cool with it though.  I didn't end up with any curl definition or anything.  Just a cute little tight fro. :)  However the thing that surprised me the most was the softness and shine of my hair!  It felt even softer than when I would apply my leave in!  NEVER have I been able to achieve this when allowing my hair to fully shrink and dry.  NEVER!  But this time?  Oh yeah!  I think I may be on to something ladies.  So, The next time I wanna rock my shrinkage I will revisit this method.  I can get used to this "less product is best" thing.   I hope it works for you guys too!  Let me know  :)  Have a great afternoon.

My last relaxer was the end of August 2004. I remember it well because I was getting married the very next week and I didn't want my hair so flat. I remember saying to myself that this is my last relaxer because my edges were suffering and my hair was so thin and lifeless but I wanted that nice updo for my wedding. ( Had I know what my hair was capable of I would have just gotten married! LOL!) Even though I have been natural for 8 years I didn't think I could grow my hair because I had 4 C hair and it was sooooo dry. I kept my hair in a very low fade because I didn't know what else to do.I didn't start trying to grow my hair out until 2012 after discovering youtube ( where had I been?!) and realized that afro textured hair could grow. I just didn't have the knowledge or the tools yet. Anyway, my hair had been thriving and now that I have the knowledge my daughters' hair have improved as well. I'm too happy to change their perception of our hair.

Hi Simon Christie!
Omg I can totally relate to getting married with thin lifeless hair! My husband and I often joke about how bad both of our hairstyles were lol on our wedding day. (He had long hair at one point lol and mine was extremely stringy...)
I'm so glad that there are so many women realizing that there was never anything wrong with our hair....it has always been beautiful. We just weren't taught how to take care of it. It grows just like all the other textures! You may not be able to see it because of shrinkage lol... but it's growing! And it's all good!
