I'm still not re-twisting my hair at night :)

My night time routine has been EXTREMELY simple lol!  I usually wear my hair in some sort of twist out, simply because it helps my fro remain slightly stretched and waaay more moisturized than my full shrinkage lol.  When I first big chopped, I was re-twisting my hair every single night!  I was fine with doing that in the beginning because I knew that I had chopped my hair to a length that could have a tough time holding its shape.  But, I was NOT feeling the idea of re twisting my hair every single night for the rest of forever lol.  After all, I decided early on, that I wanted to go natural and have an easier lifestyle spending less time in the bathroom doing my hair. :)

After my first month being natural, I decided to try sleeping on my fro without re-twisting it at night.  I woke up with EXTREME bedhead that was SMUSHED and looked like there was no hope for my hairstyle. I thought my hair was going to be tangled and matted down lol.   I had heard about ladies refreshing their wash and go's with shower steam before, so I decided to try it on my twistouts....and it worked lol!
This is what I have been doing since September 2012 and it has really worked for me:

1. I make sure my hair is moisturized
2. I sleep with a satin like slip (my bonnet is getting too small for my hair lol)  and a satin pillowcase.

That's it!  That is all I do to my fro 99% of the time at night :)  Even though my fro looks different each day, I love it!  It never gets boring lol.  I've realized that my 4C hair is going to change day to day. It is much easier to embrace it and work with it instead of trying to change it :)  My hair is going to naturally fro out and shrink in some sort of way lol... it's all a part of having my hair texture.  To me, fully stretched and defined hair isn't the only beautiful way to rock your fro :)   I actually enjoy my day 2 and day 3 hair more than my day 1 hair lol.  I love it!
How do you feel about re- twisting nightly?

Day 1
This twistout  was done with medium twists.
Product used were:
olive oil, avocado butter, shea moisture curl and shine conditioner and Fantasia IC Hair Polisher (clear) gel

Day 2

I don't like to twist every night. One of the things I found is that if I twist each night I get to use to having my hands in my hair. My hair does better the less I manipulate it. What I'm experimenting with now is doing a twist at night and trying to make it last for 3 days then co-wash and twist again. Once my hair gets longer(like yours) then I think I can come up with styles that will last longer.

Hey Sandy!
I totally agree with my hair doing better without me manipulating it soo much lol. It just wants to do it own thing so I let it for the most part :) and it keeps the peace lol. Although I can get up to 5 days usually with my styles I usually go no more than 4 because my scalp gets irritated. My scalp has always done this since I was a teen sigh...

Hi Kriss--I found you on YouTube this week as I was browsing hair vids. You are a beautiful girl and you really rock the natural look.
I adore your personality too--sweet and funny. I have also enjoyed viewing your vids with your hubby. You two seem to make a wonderful couple, with similar personalities. God bless you and your family.

How Do You Find The Time To Twist All Your Hair Every Single Night? I would like to do that because I detangle my natural hair every night and day and wear it as a fro, but I know its going to start breaking my hair off. Help :(

Hey Ashleigh!
I actually didn't retwist my hair everynight 99 percent of the time during the fall, winter, and spring :) The pics above are showing what happens to my hair when I don't re twist and only refresh with steam. Now that its summer I playing around with the possibility of re twisting nightly because my hair has been having trouble with the humidity. When I retwist it takes about 12 to 15 minutes depending on tangles. Maybe you can try pineappling you hair at night to see of that helps

Oh okay. I see why you're able to twist it so often! It takes me 4-6 hours to put my hair into 2 strand twists. I wish I could twist all the tome but my hair tangles so easily I would need to detangle it all the time too. I wish my hair would get that curly look that you get, it looks great. You go girl :)

Hey Ashleigh!
I notice whenever I detangle my hair using a comb prior to styling my hair is very bushy. My twistouts are even bushier because the comb removes the coils that "pop" when I cowash my hair. So I try to only use combs every now and then ( I use my fingers 99 percent of the time) so my styles can keep the natural coil pattern it has.

Just wondering about you not retesting yiur hair at night. My hair is 4c very tight curl and you said that you use the steam of the shower to fluff up your fro. Is that with or without a shower cap?

Hey Nadine!
I usually wear a shower cap now since my hair is longer. But using it without works just as well :D It just depends on what I'm in the mood for that day lol

Hi Crystal! I've been watching you on YouTube for a few months now and want to thank you for educating the rest of us 4c hair girls on how to manage our hair! :-) I went natural 6 months ago and absolutely LOVE my natural hair. You've mentioned in your videos that your hair is thin and I can't tell. This might be a silly question but how do you know it's thin? Also, in regards to wearing a shower cap or not when you refresh your hair, what difference do you see with each? Thank you! :-)

Awesome. I adore you, your family, and the videos you've shared. I'm gonna try this. Ive been concerned that daily twisting or plaiting could be too much and wondered how to go without doing that.
