Easy Afro Hairstyle :)

So, this morning my twistout completly shrunken and undefined. :)  I was too tired to cowash last night, so before bed  I just added a little olive oil, avocado butter, and Shea Moisture Hold and Shine Moisture Mist spray to my fro. (I slept with my satin bonnet as well.)
After examining my hair this morning, I tried to come up with a style for the day.  I didn't want to wash it just yet, because I like to allow my hair to air dry over night.  However, my fro was looking like it needed some serious attention!  LOL
I started reminiscing on a style my mom use to do with my hair when I was little.  She would put my hair a puff at the top of my head and leave the back out. (Memories...lol)  So, that got me thinking... Here's what I came up with :)

Picture
Dampen the hair with your choice of liquid moisturizer. Next, part the back of your hair almost half way up your head.
Picture
Use clips to help hold the lower section down and keep it out of the way.
Picture
Apply a gel of choice to your edges, and use a knee high or elastic of choice to create a high puff on the top portion of your hair.
Picture
After removing the clips, use your fingers to close any gaps created by the part. Next, use a pick to create some height and fullness to your fro.

Add an accessory for fun!

I love this hairstyle!  It took less than 5 minutes to do and it's a fun way to add some shape to your shrinkage.  I love that it "fools the eye by looking like a puff from the front, and then a frohawk on the sides :)   This is a nice alternative if you don't like using tons of bobby pins to hold your hair in a "traditional" frohawk.  It even works with the "awkward length" stage I'm in with my hair right now lol.  I hope you guys like this style!  Let me know if you try it out :)  Be blessed!

I've been trying to avoid the poof hair style ever since I started wearing my hair natural. But you make it look so cute. I might try this hair style with cornrows or cornrow twists in the front. I have been doing the perm rod sets which has worked well for me. Only one problem, I exercise every day. My hair always reverts back to the poof afterwards. I'm not willing to compromise my workout schedule just to salvage a hairdo. So the fro is looking like a definite reality for me.

Hi Candy!
Thank you for the compliment on the hairstyle :) Yeah, I have just accepted the fact that my hair will just "fro out" no matter what after a day or so lol. So now I just expect it and work with it. Before going natural, I never thought I would rock a "fro" or a non defined hairstyle lol. It took some time to adjust to my new hair, but I'm really lovin it! There's nothing wrong with rockin' a fro :D Stay encouraged! I'm sure your hair is awesome!
