I haven't touched my flexi rods since my husband last attempted them back in February! but they have been sitting under my sink just asking to be taken out for a run so I caved and gave them a try on a dirty twistout. I ended up using avocado butter on my hair to do 21 twists and I did a test one with shea butter out of curiosity lol. I usually use conditioner as my styler but I wanted to see if I would get less shrinkage to help combat the army of SSK's. ( I have been searching and destroying over the past couple days as well.) I LOVE the way my hair turned out! It's got me thinking I should start working with my hair dry for certain styles now that it was gotten longer. Besides, I'm not a fan of a lot of definition with twistouts etc., so I end up liking the results of my dry twists better :D That's what being on a hair journey is all about! Taking note on how your hair responds to certain things and techniques and changing things when needed to have the best results possible. Even though my hair has gotten longer, it still shrinks up MAJORLY! I really like that my hair does that, however it can cause me more ssks which I DO NOT enjoy :( So I'm going to see if working with my hair dry more often helps me out over all.
