Vortex Travel Brush Set

  I'm totally digging' the brushes in the Vortex Travel Brush Set! This set of 8 brushes retails for $59.95 on SedonaLace.com, which is a definite money saver verses buying the brushes individually. Here's what's included:

Tulip Contour Brush FB03 (retail $18.95) -  This brush is great for blush, bronzer, powder, and even blending out cream/ liquid foundation!  I love the finish it leaves on my skin.
Note:  The brush that I personally have sheds a little when I use it on my face or wash it. :/ It's also a little prickly feeling, but it doesn't scratch my skin.

Flat Top Buffer FB07 (retail $18.95) - This brush is AMAZING!  It works really well for blending out liquid foundation.  It applies with a light tough and feels silky smooth on my skin.  LOVE IT! :D

Dome Contour FB05 (retail $16.95) -  This brush applies product full coverage. This brush can also be used for contour and powder.

Universal Blender EB09 (retail $13.95) - This is another one of my faves in this collection.  This brush picks up eyeshadow quickly and with ease.  It applies smoothly and works both damp and dry.

Flat Synthetic EB11 ( retail $13.95) -  This brush can be used for brows as well as blending out cream products.  I prefer to use this to apply eyeshadow under my lash line and my outer corners of my eyes.  Definitely a fave!

Synthetic Blender EB13 (retail $13.95) -  This brush can be used to blend out rough edges of eyeshadow, contouring and even concealer.

Capped Lip Brush LB25 (retail $13.95) -  This can be used on the lips as well as the brows.  It may also be a great concealer brush. :)

Double Ended Duo Brush EB27 available in this kit only -  ($13.95 for the EB17... a similar brush)  This brush can be used on the brows and lashes.  It is also great for applying cream eyeliners.

20 Color Eyeshadow Palette

*  BEAUTIFUL colors!

Channel Take Over!  Shea Moisture Baby Lotion Review (w/ Gabe & Mike!)

    Today, Gabriel and Micah take over the channel with their review of Shea Moisture's Baby Lotions!  I actually purchased these lotions back in May, so we've had quite some time to see how their skin responded to the lotions.  I mentioned before, that Micah had baby eczema when he was younger and although he had gotten a little older, his skin still had certain itchy dry areas.  Well, that is no longer an issue!  Woot woot!   I've been using the Olive and Marula lotion on him and his skin is doing awesome with no flare ups.  :)

    Gabe has always had very very dry skin.  For the longest time, I tried to find something that would keep him hydrated throughout the day but it was constantly a fail.  (I too, as a child, went through this...)  I decided to use the Raw Shea Chamomile & Argan Oil lotion on him since it seemed thicker and more moisturizing.  I must say that thus far, this lotion has done the trick for Supa Gabe.  It keeps his skin soft and ash free lol!  He also likes this lotion because the scent is stronger than the Olive and Marula one.  He says it smells like a "man" lotion lol!!!

Pros

*  Affordable ($9.99 - $10.99)
*  Great ingredients
*  Smells nice
*  Pump makes it easy to dispense
*  Very hydrating
*  Doesn't irritate Gabe's skin

Cons

*  Scent may be strong for some
*  Can be difficult to find in stores

My Skin Care Routine Day/Night

7/21/2014

3 Comments

    Hey! As requested, today I share my skin care routine! (I've been using the same basics of this regimen for 1 1/2 - 2 years.)
My skin is far from perfect... In fact, I had a breakout in this vid SMH!
    I've always had combo oily, acne prone, easily scarred, hyper pigmented skin ... As you may know, I don't wear a lot of makeup but I'm really happy that my current regimen has gotten me to a point where I'm more comfortable in my own skin without makeup. I hope this video helps! :)

Things I Use On My Skin :)
To see how I use these products on my skin, see video above.

Coconut Oil

    I currently use this oil at night.  I LOVE to use this to help me remove my makeup and I even use it when I'm not wearing makeup. This oil provides my skin with a really healthy looking glow and it keeps my skin hydrated and soft.  I also still use this as my body lotion daily.

African Black Soap

    I currently use this day and night.  This soap works great at keeping my skin balances and helps keep my breakouts minimal. It cleans really well and helps rid my skin of dirt, oil, and makeup.

Oatmeal

    I currently use this in the morning.  Oatmeal has been great for my skin!  It keeps it soft, controls my oil, helps fade acne scars, and brightens my skin tone.  It also helps minimize the look of my large pores.  It gently exfoliates my skin without being too abrasive.

Baking Soda

    Last year, I wasn't sure how long I was going to use baking soda in my regimen, but this baby is amazing for fading my acne scars!!!  I scar VERY easily and if I let a pimple go without being treated it is likely to leave a long lasting scar behind. :/  Using a bit of baking soda a couple times a week (daily if I need to treat a serious breakout) has gotten my skin to a point where I'm more comfortable wearing no foundation.  :D

(See video to see how I like to use this ingredient.  Since it is very abrasive, caution must be taken.)

Tea Tree Oil

    It was recommended that I try this oil for spot treating my pimples, and I must say that it's amazing!  I tend to get some sort of pimple daily... (Unfortunately this is something that I've had to deal with forever lol.)  Well, tea tree oil zaps those buggers away very quickly and I worry a lot less about breaking out than before.

Vitamin E Oil

   I finally have found a way to get this oil to work for me!  It has been amazing for fading my under eye circles and reducing some fine lines around my eyes.

Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Body Lotion

  I have started to use this lotion in place of my GNC Vitamin C cream which I still love.  I wanted to switch that out however, because I wanted to use something with better ingredients.  This lotion gets the job done and it doesn't break me out.  I only use a little since it contains lots of natural oils.

50% Isopropyl Alcohol & Witch Hazel

  I honestly prefer using the 50% isopropyl alcohol simply because it clears my pores better.  I tend to use it on targeted areas my like chin, neck, and around my lips the most.  I use the witch hazel when I don't need to use something as strong.

Soothing Care Anti Chaffing Relief Powder Gel (from the makers of Monistat)

   LOL!!!  I know this sound like a strange choice to use on my face, but hey, it works!  This product works well when it comes to providing a smooth surface on my skin.  It helps control oil, so on days where I want to go foundation- free I can do so without being a grease ball lol!  This product works like a primer for my skin. :)

Viva Papertowels

  I love to use these to remove my makeup as well as dry my skin.  They are very gentle and cloth-like so they don't damage my skin.  I also like that I get a fresh clean "towel" each time I clean my face... which reduces breaking out from bacteria lurking in regular towels.  (When I can't find the "pick a size" paper towels, sometimes I like to rip the large sheets in half to reduce the amount of paper towel I use.)

    Sometimes we don't feel like we're #beautiful enough without the "extra." There's nothing wrong with wanting to play around with a little #color here and there for fun...but simplicity is fierce too. ;)

    Good Morning! Just sharing my skins' progress  (Ignore the VERY tired look lol!!!) I have been sticking with my baking soda and oatmeal routine and it really has improved my hyperpigmentation! (BTW, I used two new natural soaps last night and this morning in place of Cetaphil!  One is the Nubian Heritage Coconut and Papaya Soap and the other is the Nubian Heritage African Black Soap. I hope they are a step in the right direction!)  The soaps were under $4.00 each at The Vitamin Shoppe. :)

Prolonging my daily use of baking soda :)

8/3/2013

    Hey!  I've decided to continue using my baking soda/Cetaphil combo for awhile longer. The reason is, I had a major breakout recently after going to visit relatives and not being able to keep up on my skincare routine like I wanted to.  So I have quite a few acne spots I need to fade once again ugh!!!!!  Now that I know the baking soda and oatmeal regimen that I have been doing since March really helps me out, I will just keep doing it.

    I had planned to stop using the baking soda daily and switch to using it once or twice a week instead but I will continue daily, only at night, until I'm pleased with the dark spots. (For years, sometimes what works for me, is I dab a little toothpaste, hydrogen peroxide (the oral stuff, or 50% isopropyl rubbing alcohol to the pimples to help dry them out.  I use the 50% percent alcohol on my neck as a toner too lol. It's cheaper than most astringents which contain about the same alcohol amounts at times! SMH)  Just be careful when using those things :)

   It's on again dark spots! You're going down!!! lol

My Skin Update :)

5/21/2013

Picture
  It has been about 2 months since I started using baking soda and oatmeal in my skin regimen to help with fading my acne scars and even out my hyperpigmentation and I am very pleased with how things have been going.  I have decided to give the baking soda another month or two and stop using it daily after that since it has a really high ph. (I will use it on occasion.)   As far as the oatmeal I'm going to keep that in my regimen long term because it's just soo awesome!  (And gentle lol)

Baking Soda

* Cheap (I think I've seen it for like 50 cents!)

* Exfoliates VERY WELL

* VERY Abrasive (I don't recommend using if you have acne, or open cuts on your skin.  Also, avoid rubbing too hard because you can cause serious damage!)

* Deep cleans

* Smooths the skin

* Evens the skintone

* High PH 8-8.5 ( Many people like to use something acidic like apple cider vinegar or lemon juice to help bring the balance back to the skin after using baking soda.)

* Used in many microdermabrasion cleansers as the main ingredient  (sodium bicarbonate)

Oatmael

* Cheap

* Gentle on skin

* Great for oil control

* Brightens the skin

* Exfoliates and cleans the skin

* Improves the look of pores

* Softens skin

* Calms and soothes itching

* Works well with other things like honey :)

* Evens the skin tone

Ordered new things to try for my skin :)

4/23/2013

  I ordered two things from Amazon.com a few days ago and my shipment arrived today!  YAY!  I decided to try the Olay Professional Pro X Advanced Cleansing System to see if if helps with exfoliating my skin...especially since I'm working on my hyperpigmentation. (There are other systems like Clarisonic...but need I say it's EXPENSIVE!!! LOL)   I have been wanting to try this brush out forever but it was always too pricey for me until I found a sale for $21.97 :)  Usually this product costs almost 30 dollars, so I thought this was a fair price to give it a try.  I can't wait to use it and will be sure to let you know how it works for me!  Have you ever tried this product?
Picture
  I also ordered these eyebrow shapers made by Noxema.  I have been using similar shapers from TRIM , but they aren't very sharp.  I hope these work better for me :)  They were only $2.39!

Trying to even out my skin tone...

4/7/2013

10 Comments

    I have had problems with my skin for as long as I can remember.  I have combination oily skin that drives me crazy!!!!! I tend to get oily on my cheeks and forehead and very dry around my mouth.  Over the years I have had MANY breakouts. Now, I usually get breakouts around the same time of month, as if I need anything else frustrating going on in addition to mood swings lol! (You know what I'm talking about ladies!)

   Well, on top of the acne scars, (some of which have been around since my teens, I have always had hyperpigmentation around my mouth.  I have tried soo many things( fade creams, scrubs, lemon juice, tea bags, day creams, night creams, sunscreens etc)   to even it out with the rest of my skin, that I eventually just gave up on it lol.  But honestly, I'm very self conscious about it and it's the main reason I choose to wear Revlon Colorstay.  That makeup has been a major help with controlling my oil throughout the day and works awesome to even my skin tone out while looking natural. Since I started using Revlon Colorstay, I don't have those what seemed liked daily breakouts anymore. :)

   I recently decided to research safe and effective ways even out my skin tone again and have found that baking soda and oatmeal are awesome with helping with uneven skin tones.  These actually are two things that I have always sprinkled in my regimen through the years, here and there, whenever I felt like my skin needed a boost, but I have never tried to do daily treatments.  Oatmael is a naturally great for brightening the skin and getting rid of excess oil.  Baking soda is great for exfoliating and evening the skin tone and texture.

 What I have been doing this past month at night is:
1. Use coconut oil to remove my makeup
2. Use Viva paper towel to remove excess oils from my skin
3. Cleanse with Cetaphil Daily Facial cleanser mixed with a little bit of baking soda
4. Blot my face dry with a towel
5. Tone my skin
6. Moisturize with avocado butter (maybe a little shea butter on really dark spots on my face lol)

What I have been doing in the morning in the shower is:
 1. I wet my face with warm water and apply ground up oatmael mixed with a little water, to my entire face. I let it sit while I do what I gotta do in the shower lol
 2. After I'm done washing lol, I rinse the oatmeal off of my face and cleanse with Cetaphil.
3.  I dry my face dry with a towel, and use a  toner (usually witch hazel) around the areas I'm trying to even out.
4.  Last,  I moisturize my skin with GNC vitamin C cream  (and very little avocado butter only around my mouth)
5.  Do my makeup :)

    I have noticed an awesome change in my skin so far, so I'm happy about that.  It looks brighter and less oily :)  My "newer" dark spots that usually take forever to start fading are disappearing faster :)  So far soo good!!

Note: Since baking soda can be a little harsh, I don't scrub too hard or use too much. It can irritate your skin.  Oatmeal is great for removing oil so it may cause a little dryness to the skin. I have been a little drier around my mouth since doing these steps, but it is easily fixed by using a little avocado butter on the drier areas :)

  I will be sticking with these newly added steps for awhile to see how my skin responds.  Hopefully I'll have a more even skin tone soon.  Have a blessed day!!!

Things I'm working on for healthier skin!

1/22/2013

6 Comments

    As I've mentioned before, my skin has really had a tough time as I grew up.  I'm actually a little traumatized from all that has happened lol.  So I am VERY happy that it has began to "chill" out as time goes along...  I have a very simple skin care regimen that I have been sticking to that has worked out great.    From now on, I will remain consistent with keeping everything as simple as possible.  There are soo many skin products and skin care lines out there that it seems like there has to be an easier way than "a cream for this, a cream for that."  I don't think my skin can take anymore harsh treatment on my behalf lol.  So from here on out, I need to be doing things that are both gentle and effective on my skin.  Here are some goals that  I'm working on in hopes to achieve better skin!   God bless :)

                                             1.  Improve my diet to include more fruits and vegetables
                            (Can you believe I'm eating kale instead of lettuce for my salads?!?  lol)

                                             2.  Using natural oils in my skincare regimen for balanced skin

                                             3.  Remove makeup every night before going to bed

                                             4.  Not popping pimples until they are ready!
                                                            (Omg, I need some serious work with this lol)

                                             5.  Exfoliating regularly for a smoother complexion

                                             6.  Keeping my skin "truly" moisturized
                                   (Like with my hair, I'm going to try to use healthier products)

                                             7.  Exercising more often (LOL)

                                             8.
Getting enough rest at night

                                       (Lol does anybody ever get enough sleep nowadays?)
