Soft & Moisturized Hair Using Steam! - Q-Redew Review + Full Demo! - 4C Natural Hair

7/30/2015

Hey!  Today, I'm sharing my review for the Q-Redew Hair Steamer!  This handy tool is great for adding a boost of moisture to hair and skin and it has also been very popular amongst naturalistas for the past few years!  It's great for all hair types and it's definitely a tool with many uses. :D I hope this helps!

When it comes to haircare, steam is great for many things.  It will almost immediately add softness and moisture to dry hair.  It also gently lifts your hair's cuticles which allows hair products to perform better and penetrate the strands.  Since steams plumps the hair strands, it is also able to aid in detangling and overall styling.  Steam can even aid in healthy hair growth since it naturally moisturizes the scalp.  This allows your body to produce more sebum (oils) which keeps your hair healthy looking and healthy feeling.  Last, steam is great for enhancing your natural hair type.  Coils, curls, waves, straight, or a combo of all mentioned lol.  Phew!  Yes, steam is the bomb.com for hair lol!

In my case,  I've been a huge fan of using steam in my regimen to refresh my fro since big chopping.  I've always loved the way my hair feels after stepping out of the shower.  Even when my hair is smushed and looks beyond repair lol, steam has been a sanity saver throughout my journey for sure!  Now that my hair is a bit longer, I still enjoy using shower steam to refresh my hair, however, sometimes it's not quite enough.  Since there is more length for the steam to penetrate, I'd have to prolong my showers or make the water very hot to get enough steam through my strands.  When I shower without a shower cap, my hair gets wet although I try to avoid it from doing so. :/  So when I was asked to try the Q-Redew Hair Steamer, I was pumped!

Pros

*  The Q- Redew is very easy to use.  There's no buttons, settings, or switches to learn.  All you have to do is plug it in and hold the trigger. :)

*  The unit is ready to use in no time!  It heats up very quick!

*  Since the Q-Redew is handheld, it's easy to direct the steam where you need it.

*  The steam/vapor is gentle on the hair and skin.

*  The unit doesn't saturate the hair with water, so there's really no drying time to worry about.

*  It quickly adds a moisture boost to dry hair.

*  It's great for refreshing and reshaping smushed hair lol. (Pretty much every hairstyle I do ends up smushed in the morning smh!)

*  The Q- Redew can be used as a facial steamer for dry skin. (Save that spa money for something else lol!)

* It be used as a quick deep conditioning aid.

* The steam lasts for about 8 minutes per "fill".

Cons

*  It feels a bit heavy so it takes some time getting used to holding it.

*  Water reservoir could be larger especially for those who wish to use the unit for detangling.  However, in the way I've chosen to use it, I have never run out of water during a session.

Greek Yogurt and ACV Rinse

12/11/2013

It's been a few months since I started using greek yogurt and apple cider vinegar in my regimen and I really like it.  I think doing these treatments regularly have helped me not have to do a dramatic cut on my hair to rid myself of the incomplete splits. So far, I've been able to trim them off gradually.  BTW, I've only tried the 0% fat yogurt but it's said that the
2 % fat and full fat work better on the hair.  One day I hope to try them out but haven't been able to find it.  In the meantime, the one I'm using is working like a charm.

Right now, I use the greek yogurt every 2 weeks to once a month.  I use the apple cider vinegar once a month.

Greek Yogurt Benefits:
Adds strength
Adds shine
Moisturizes
(2% and full fat yogurt are said to be more moisturizing)

Coconut Oil Hair Benefits:
Penetrates Hair shaft for extra nourishment
Prevents protein loss
Adds strength and shine
Aids in moisture retention
Prevents hair from swelling too much during washing session

Avocado Oil/Butter Hair Benefits:
Softens and conditions hair
Sun protection
Penetrates hair shaft
Helps seal moisture

Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Benefits:
Clarifies and conditions
Regulates PH (skin)
Dandruff/itch relief
Stimulates scalp
Closes cuticle for smoother hair

Breaking Down My True Wash & Go (Eden Body Works Leave in Conditioner)

Check out,
True Wash & Go Breakdown ft Eden BodyWorks Leave in (detangling, cutting knots, etc) - NaturalMe4C

Good morning!  It was requested that I share how I break down my wash and go since my hair is soo tightly coiled. Many times, wash and go's are not a go to style for people with similar textures because the detangling can be a serious test of patience!  Knots and tangles are inevitable with my hair because no matter how much detangling I do, it shrinks right back up and ravels onto itself once again. I absolutely love my wash and gos and wear them all the time but I get knots and tangles too yall! LOL  Here's how I handle them:

Breaking Down My Stretched Wash & Go

5/9/2013

I'm really glad I haven't had trouble finger detangling my wash and go's any more!  Especially since my wash and go's usually end up in TONS of knots and tangles :/  However, since I have been wearing the "stretched" wash and go's it has been soo much easier to get through.  I'm soo happy that breaking down my stretched wash and go isn't any harder than breaking down a twistout :D I only had to snip 2 very tiny knots this time which is pretty normal for my fro :)  This process takes me about 25-30 minutes at my current length :)
 Here's what I did:

I'm still not re-twisting my hair at night :)

4/8/2013

My night time routine has been EXTREMELY simple lol!  I usually wear my hair in some sort of twist out, simply because it helps my fro remain slightly stretched and waaay more moisturized than my full shrinkage lol.  When I first big chopped, I was re-twisting my hair every single night!  I was fine with doing that in the beginning because I knew that I had chopped my hair to a length that could have a tough time holding its shape.  But, I was NOT feeling the idea of re twisting my hair every single night for the rest of forever lol.  After all, I decided early on, that I wanted to go natural and have an easier lifestyle spending less time in the bathroom doing my hair. :)

After my first month being natural, I decided to try sleeping on my fro without re-twisting it at night.  I woke up with EXTREME bedhead that was SMUSHED and looked like there was no hope for my hairstyle. I thought my hair was going to be tangled and matted down lol.   I had heard about ladies refreshing their wash and go's with shower steam before, so I decided to try it on my twistouts....and it worked lol!
This is what I have been doing since September 2012 and it has really worked for me:

1. I make sure my hair is moisturized
2. I sleep with a satin like slip (my bonnet is getting too small for my hair lol)  and a satin pillowcase.

That's it!  That is all I do to my fro 99% of the time at night :)  Even though my fro looks different each day, I love it!  It never gets boring lol.  I've realized that my 4C hair is going to change day to day. It is much easier to embrace it and work with it instead of trying to change it :)  My hair is going to naturally fro out and shrink in some sort of way lol... it's all a part of having my hair texture.  To me, fully stretched and defined hair isn't the only beautiful way to rock your fro :)   I actually enjoy my day 2 and day 3 hair more than my day 1 hair lol.  I love it!
How do you feel about re- twisting nightly?

Day 1
This twistout  was done with medium twists.
Product used were:
olive oil, avocado butter, shea moisture curl and shine conditioner and Fantasia IC Hair Polisher (clear) gel

Picture

Day 2
refreshed with shower steam :)

Picture

Day 3
refreshed with shower steam
(updo is  "Easy Afro Hairstyle"  I just  left out my bangs lol)
