Aight ya'll... As promised I'm sharing some results from using the Darcy's Botanicals products and Carol's Daughter products I purchased.
Long story short MY FRO IS PISSED! LOL! She doesn't like any of them at the moment.... and I've tried ALL but the Healthy Hair Butter from Carol's Daughter smh! The reason I've been able to try them out so quickly is because, I've only been able to get 1 day of "decent" results and the 2nd day has always been a disaster! This is a VERY strange experience because the products make my hair looks good but the feel????? NOT GOOD! I've been having flashbacks of last summer! :O :/
Honestly, MY HAIR FEELS AWFUL RIGHT NOW... FOR REAL. I'm for sure gonna have to go into a little recovery mode. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do yet... :/ Well, I'm going to be doing full reviews on these sooner rather than later lol. I'll share more details about what's going on then. :)
Here are a ton of results pics:)
I don't know what to say right now other than I'm SHOCKED!!! I decided to try the Eden Body Works Curl Defining Cream for a damp twistout... As you may know this product DID NOT work for me last summer. But I was feeling daring especially since it now works well for my wash and gos. I even used the Eden Body Works Coconut Shea Leave in for the style.
I also decided to try something else that I haven't done since Sept 2012 lol, the LCO method on freshly washed hair. I'm usually a LOC and a LOCO girl. The reason I decided to try this method this time is because I'm experimenting with my scalp... I have always mentioned that it is sensitive to oils... my hair loves them but my scalp isn't a fan so much. :/ Whenever I do the LOC or LOCO method I try to avoid my scalp as much as possible but I still get this crazy itch after a couple days. I've always had to wash my hair 2x a week (even with the LCO method I used back in my relaxed days) but recently I added another cowash in there which I'm fine with but I don't wanna be blitzing through product lol.
So with that, the wheels in my head started turning and I decided to try to see what my hair and scalp does WITHOUT direct liquid oils at this point in my journey. Will my scalp be a little calmer??? As you know, things change lol!
When I was applying my product this time to wet hair, it didn't feel as nice as it would if I had my avocado oil in my hair... but I kept going... I used the Eden leave in, put clips in my hair to help stretch it a little, and sat under the dryer to get my hair to a "damp" state rather than soaking wet. Then I twisted with the Curl Defining Creme and Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade (sealer). I even added a little of the pomade to the itchier areas of my scalp. OMG, I LOVE THE RESULTS! Right now, my hair does NOT feel dry at all and my scalp feels really good too. :)
Maybe it's the products?!? I dunno!
I will let you know how it does with me not using the liquid oils. This is another experimental phase for me! Hmmm...
I'll post the day 2/3 hair tomorrow. :)
It's time again! I'm so over this "transition" out of incomplete splits ya'll lol. It's been almost 5 months since the "incident" and I'm bout ready to be done with it. (Hey, I only had patience enough to transition to natural for 6 months and then chopped. This is similar lol.) This time I HAVE to trim because the splits are starting to open and break. :/
I'm not upset because I knew I would have to make cuts at some point. I made a personal goal to "transition" at least until the end of the year... even though I did a minor trim in November (Impatient lol.)
I've actually been letting people know for months that I've been enjoying the current length I'm at and although I want to grow my hair longer it's not really a huge deal for me at the moment. I'm taking each day at a time. We'll see!
Here's where it all started... smh
Here's a glimpse of that twistout fail I was talking about. This is what my hair was looking like after the nourish and shine (used with other products). At first, it was REALLY soft...so soft that it did not hold the twist definition at all. In fact, my hair was almost straight! I ended up twisting my hair twice in 1 day in attempt to get some hold and it was a no go.
Btw, the product is a sealer and had a similar effect on my hair much like the Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade. So although my hair got REALLY stretched out, it's fine. I'm currently rocking a wash and go and Ms. Fro's coils are just as tight as ever lol.
How does your hair like "un doctored/plain" shea butter? Alright, I thought I would give it another go. After all, the last time I tried plain shea butter on my hair was back in March and it wasn't horrible but it wasn't all that either. On my test patches back then, it had worked similar to my avocado butter. However, I never tried it on my entire head for a twistout before, so I got curious. Well... it was an epic FAIL! MY hair felt like a complete brillo pad! It was soo hard and dry feeling! I didn't know what to do with it.... I could just hear Ms. Fro tellin' me off.
Right now, shea butter is just not for me. Maybe I need to "doctor" it up or something... but I'm not exactly into mixing lots of stuff so that probably won't happen for a long time lol!
Edges are soo iffy!!! One wrong move and they're the first to go! There have been several occasions where mine were practically non existent. Especially after having children. Today I discuss some of the causes of thinning hairlines, as well as some things that may be helpful correcting the issue.
My edges have been through it! For real!
Be careful when doing protective styles. Braids, wigs, weaves, extensions, tight pony tails, etc. can all cause hair loss around the edges if done incorrectly, or if you have a sensitive scalp to begin with.
Hats, scarfs, pillowcases, bandanas etc. Especially those made with cotton can damage the hairline. Try to use things that are silky/satin :) You can also try wearing a satin scarf under hats or lining the inside of your hats with silk or satin to avoid friction.
Be careful when using brushes and combs on your hair line. They don't have to be perfectly slick and smooth all the time lol! I like to use a baby brush and soft tooth brush when I want them a little smoother.
Lack of Moisture
Don't forget to pay close attention to your edges while moisturizing. Even after you wash your face, be sure to re moisturize or wear a scarf while washing up to protect your hair. Oils are great for sealing in moisture so look into things like castor, rosemary, tea tree, peppermint, coconut, jojoba, olive, avocado etc. Choose your favorites along with a little scalp massage!
Heat, color, relaxers, bleaching etc. can cause hairline damage.
If you are using processes like these, make sure you are doing them properly to avoid losing hair.
Health, Diet, and Exercise
Eating right and exercise can help provide hair with the proper nutrients which are essential for healthy hair.
Genetics and Scalp Conditions
Things like Alopecia, Psoriasis, Pattern Baldness, Ringworm, can cause hairloss. It's best to see a doctor for treatment.
Here's what I like to do sometimes to avoid tension and stress on my nape and hairline when wearing puffs.
Hey! I attempted an old hairstyle that I did on the channel called Edgy/Fun Updo. After taking out the front of my hair it was a FAIL! Nothing like the 1st time lol. But I quickly figured out what to do with it because there was NO WAY I was re-washing my hair!
Ms. Fro thought she had me in an "Edgy Updo Fail" this morning! But after some tucking and a hair pin... SUPER MOMMY! (According to Micah LOL!)
This was my inspiration lol!
NaturalMe4C- Edgy/Fun Updo This is the video I posted a lonnng time ago for this style :D
I can't tell you how many times as a teen I would have cried if I woke up to my hair EXTREMELY smushed lol! I used to despise shrinkage when I was younger However, since learning how to work with and not against my hair, I no longer go into "panic mode" when I wake up this way Last night, (because Ty talked me out of cowashing lol!) I spritzed my hair with a nice amount of water and added some coconut oil as a sort of lengthy pre no-poo. (I'll be washing my hair later tonight.) Well, this is what I woke up to this morning...and this is how I used my secret weapon....SHOWER STEAM!
After I posted my review for the Tangle Tamer Max awhile ago, some people weren't sure what exactly an incomplete split looks like in a hair strand. I drew a picture (it wasn't the best lol!) in that video, but I was able to take an actual pic of a strand I snipped. There are MULTIPLE incomplete splits SMH! And I'm STILL trying to recover from them.
I don't worry TOO much about them at the moment because my hair is still responding well to my regimen and isn't breaking.... so they're just there... and right now, I'm snipping them as my hair grows out. I guess you can say I'm sort of "transitioning" out of them... Be careful with hair tools.... Seriously....
Looks like I got ahead of myself with the whole "Ms. Fro is diggin' glycerin now"... (mentioned on Facebook) Today it felt pretty crunchy... It's bringing back memories of last fall SMH! Apparently, my hair is still doing the "soft to crunchy" song and dance with glycerin containing products for my fall twistouts. :/
So I'm about to cowash my hair... Trial and error...still.
I had a nice day and a half of softness with this twistout... (Pics are from twists I did Tuesday night and unraveled on Wednesday.)
Then the weather got pretty chilly and....Voila! Crunchy Fro! (Pics from tonight)
I posted a little while back that I would let you know how the Tangle Tamer MAX worked out with detangling my wash and gos. Well, IT DID NOT WORK OUT AT ALL! I am soooooooooo frustrated that I even thought about giving a tool like this a try. This brush was very deceiving because it detangle my hair with ease...no snagging, to tugging...so I thought everything was cool. Until one night I got the urge to examine my hair (which I do frequently especially when wearing wash and gos. I was furious at what I found... the brush literately SHREDDED some of my hair! I had incomplete splits in the areas that I used the brush in.
Incomplete splits can be dangerous to hair because if they are in the middle of the strand and then one day decide to open up fully and split, it can cause lots of breakage. As with all types of split ends, cutting them is the only real way to get rid of them. You can, however, use things to "mend" them until your ready to snip them away.
Incomplete splits look like little holes in the hair strand. UGH!!!
Here's what I think is what most people think of when talking about split ends :D
My Plan Of Action!
*Search and destroy missions ( A LOT OF THEM! LOL)
* Using Coconut oil as a sort of "pre poo" (even though I cowash lol) This helps prevent the hair from swelling too much during the washing session and therefore prevents weak hair.
* Protein Treatment using Greek Yogurt 1- 2 times a month
* Use ACV 1x a month to keep cuticles smooth
* Stepping up my moisture and sealing in moisture with an oil or butter
Needless to say, I will NOT be using this brush on my fro anymore!
I give up! Seriously! I am going to stop trying twistouts using glycerin this summer. Every time I do so, it goes up in poofs! (unless I use heavy gel or something...then it stays a little better but it doesn't feel as nice and is a little too "defined" for my taste.)
Other than that, my hair just wants to revert and go crazy. Oftentimes, it balls up onto itself instead of reverting into its normal shape and it causes major knots and tangles. I have broken some hairs trying to undo the crazy knots at times as well. SMH
As, you may know, I love my shrinkage and don't have any issues with my twistouts reverting when I don't use glycerin in my products. Normally, when my hair shrinks up for day 2, 3, and 4 it has a "unity" to it :) However, the newer products that I have been trying that contain glycerin has caused my fro to revert in a sporadic way! It's seriously crazy!
Certain products like Shea Moisture Curling Souffle and Curl Enhancing Smoothie, don't cause my twistouts to ball up onto themselves...it just bushes out. Where as the Eden Body Works Curl Defining Creme and Pudding Souffle products caused my fro to ball up! Even my Giovanni Smooth As Silk conditioner caused my ends to ball up when doing a twistout... but it works FANTASTIC for my true wash and gos. I had a "sort of" success with using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Eco Styler Argan oil gel and tiny twists lol ... but it was not my favorite twist out "look" lol. (I'll be posting that soon.) I'm not sure how it would have held with larger twists, but I'm exhausted just by the thought of trying lol!
(BTW, I just tried the Shea Moisture Curling Souffle and Curl Enhancing Smoothie for a true wash and go and it works AWESOME for my fros' shrinkage! I'll post a video for that soon as well :)
Twist out below is from using olive oil, avocado butter, and Giovanni Smooth as Silk conditioner, and 4hrs later lol!!!
Check out, .FRIZZ! (The Struggle is REAL!) - NaturalMe4C
Enough was enough! Seriously, it was time for me to regroup and get my fro under control lol. Weeks of trying new products which in some cases caused out of control frizz, poof, crunch, and dryness, had to come to an end! So what did I do? Yesterday, I decided to deep condition my hair FOR REAL! I threw what seem like everything but the kitchen sink, in my fro lol! First, I did a hot oil treatment, which I believe would be my second one since being natural. I warmed in the microwave for a few seconds, olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil (which I don't use on my hair lol but it's really good for the hair and skin so I was like why not.) I skipped the peppermint oil and castor oil this time because my scalp was fine but it was my hair that needed the attention. I lightly spritzed my hair with water to plump it up a little and applied the warm oil all over my fro and sat under a plastic cap for about 25 minutes.
I rinsed it out and quickly co-washed my hair with Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner.
( I seriously needed moisture as the gels I have been messing with and the hot air made my hair feel dry.) After that, I decided to do an ACV rinse! (Yup I was goin' in ya'll!) I was playing NO games! For the rinse, I used 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water. I applied the rinse to my wet hair and let it sit for about 5 minutes. I then rinsed my hair again and did a final cowash with Giovanni. (I'm always a little cautious when it comes to vinegar lol.)
To end my Fro Recovery Session, I decided to do a true wash and go with no shingling or gel and let my hair do what it has been trying to do for weeks...SHRINK! I used olive oil, avocado butter, and Giovanni Smooth As Silk conditioner.
I am soo shocked at how soft my full shrinkage is! My tiny coils were visible and everything! There is even some shine from the oil/ butter I'm guessing :) I'm in disbelief because usually I have trouble wearing my hair fully shrunken... but not this time! I love it and I enjoyed rocking my super tight fro today. My hair shrank to about 1 1/2 inches from my head lol!!! But it felt and looked amazing. You know what? I'm gonna be embracing my tight fro more often because there are definitely times where I don't feel like twisting my hair...especially since my twistouts have been failing lol.
( BTW, after all this, I'm totally thinking about doing more oil rinses in my regimen (especially if I'm going to be adding true wash and go's in the mix) I'm also going to look into more ACV vinegar rinses because it literally helped get my fro back in line. )
After my two failed braidouts with Shea Moisture Curling Souffle and Curl enhancing Smoothie, it was suggested that I try adding some gel to the mix when using the souffle. I had thought about trying this before my first attempt at the souffle becauase I knew there was a huge chance of major frizz, but I wanted to give the product a fair shot to see exactly how my hair responded to it.
Like always, I used olive oil, avocado butter...for my leave in I used, Shea Moisture curl and Shine Conditioner. Next, I used the Curling Souffle and Fantasia Ic Hair polisher Styling Gel (clear). Even though my hair held a lot better and was a litter stiffer, it was still puffing up from the humidity lol. This time, I was able to get a full day out of my twistout but Day 2, it completely reverted to my fro once again. My fro wins again!!!
(Btw I have been cowashing alot lately trying to figure things out :) I tried an old routine of olive oil, avocado butter, and tresemme naturals (no glycerin) only for a twistout and my hair held for a day and then poofed LOL!!!!! SMH!!!!) My fro is just actin' the fool!

My fro: 4 pts
My summer plans are basically unknown lol! I have no idea what I'm going to do with my hair this summer since it will be my first full summer rockin' my natural fro :D So far, my hair has been reverting like crazy! No matter what I've tried....the humidity just turn my fro into a poof. So I'm froin' an goin more often than not lol. And its all good! As long as my fro is moisturized, it should still be able to thrive and reap the benefits of the humidity.
Since I've been playing around with Shea Moisture and still love the Coconut and Hibiscus line, I'm going to be trying different combos of the products I own along with them....even some of the ones I really don't like lol, to see if I can get a a little hold. I want to try using what I have before venturing out. (I'll be busting out the hug jar of Eco styler once again! Who knows, it may combat some of the humidity since it's soo strong!)
This summer, I'm just going to enjoy my hair. I'm pretty close to being 1 year natural and I've loved this journey! Even though my recent hard work of twisting and braiding have gone up in "poofs" and puffs, I'm going to try not to get frustrated and keep moving forward until I achieve the results I'm looking for :)
