My 3rd Trim Since Being Natural :)

I was feeling the urge for a trim!  You know who you just wanna do something with your hair?  That was me, I wanted to cut some hair lol!  Besides, my fro has been ticked with me on several occasions this summer!  I had to reach for the comb waaay more than I normally would to loosen my hair when she got attitudes with me trying to "twistout" my hair while using glycerin products. My fro and I haven't been very nice to each other when it comes to stretching my hair out. So my ends were tired and I was tired of detangling lol!
Not to mention, I needed to get rid of some SSKS. ( I actually search and destroy alot more now since I've been going through my hair thoroughly more often. That comes with the territory of wash and go's lol.)  So a trim was definitely useful.

During this trimming session,  I took off the usual amount, but honestly I had my mind set to cut off about 1- 2 inches instead of the usual 1/4 inch or so!  However, I chickened out lol.  I'm still seriously thinking about going back in to cut it a little shorter. First, I'm going to see how my hair behaves with taking this small amount off first and I'll take it from there. :)

Here's what I did :

Search & DESTROY!!!

Ok, so I had to do it!  I had to!  (Hands up in the air lol)  I had to do a Search and Destroy on my Single Strand Knots aka SSK's!  My ends were just too tangled when I was separating a recent twistout and that was the last straw lol.  So, I decided to take an hour and a half out the other night and do a "detailed" detangle session and snip off as many SSK's as possible.  I decided to detangle my hair with Tresemme Naturals Conditioner (avocado and aloe vera)  on dry hair.  I didn't know exactly how things would go but I just separated my fro in very small sections, added the Tresemme and detangled. (I usually dampen my hair first but I was feeling daring lol.)  Surprisingly, the conditioner actually gave my hair lots of slip even though I didn't use any water. (I now have another reason to love Tresemme! lol)  I lost barely any shed hairs because I was mainly focusing midway to the ends of my hair.  After I detangled each section I twisted my hair and hoped I would have a decent twistout the next day.  I have never used Tresemme on dry hair before so I didn't know what to expect!
I was VERY surprised at this twistout!  My hair isn't freshly cowash or anything but it looks like it is :D  The conditioner didn't cause any real shrinkage or anything!  My hair has a light/ soft hold...I love it.  I think I can get several days wear on this dry twistout... but we'll see :)
Since it's inevitable that I'm going to get SSK's no matter what, I think I'm going to Search and Destroy every couple months or so unless I'm feeling too many of them in my hair. My ends feel soo much better now and the dry twistout came out pretty good!  But you know what?  On Day 2 when fluffing my hair after showering...I felt a few more SSK's!  UGH  lol  The never ending battle!  I'm not going to stress about them though lol.  Have a blessed day!

Dusting Done!

I did it!  I dusted my hair over the weekend and it turned out great!  I chose to dust my ends while I was preparing my hair for a twistout. I did my normal cowash routine.  After that, I applied my products in the following order on wet hair: olive oil, avocado butter, leave-in conditioner and aloe vera gel.   Adding the product to my hair allowed me to be able to see exactly where to cut.  The straggly ends would just stick straight out at the ends of each twist and it was obvious to see where I had to snip.  For this twist out, I did smaller twists than what I normally would do. I wanted  to make sure I got as many "stragglers" cut.  In result, I ended up with super defined twists and a very defined twist out. :)  Although I actually prefer my hair fluffier than this, it's nice to change it up a bit.  Here are a few pics of the results!  Let me know what you guys think :)

Signs it's time for a Trim

1. Breakage
When it is time for a trim many will experience breakage when combing or styling their hair.  This is a problem because it will lead to loss of length and fullness.

2. Split ends

Hair that is splitting just leads to problem after problem.  Split ends can travel up the hair shaft.  They even cause breakage!   In the end, you could end up losing more length than desired.  So, trimming that tiny bit of hair now, can prevent having a major hair cut in the long run.

3. Tangles and Knots
If you are noticing more tangles and knots, especially at the ends of the hair, consider a trim.   Allowing the hair to constantly tangle and knot will eventually lead to breakage and split ends.  Detangling becomes a tedious and frustrating job.

4. Transparent ends
I've been here more often than not!  LOL  Transparent ends are a major sign that it is time for a trim.  It will make the hair look thin and lifeless.

5.  Moisture issues
Have you been applying product after product and are still having dry ends?  Your hair seems to be moisturized everywhere else except the ends.  They just feel hard and brittle no matter what.  Grab those hair shears!

6.  Frizz and dullness
Often hair that needs to be trimmed will look dull and frizzy.   This can be the result of breakage, split ends, knots, transparent ends, and dryness!  LOL

Trimming our ends is important for the overall health of our hair.   Healthy hair is always beautiful.  In the end, we want hair that is healthy and hair that looks healthy at all lengths.  (Even the "awkward length" stage.  LOL)

Time to Dust...

Tonight is the night that I dust(lightly trim) my hair!  (Finally... lol)  Truthfully, I really wanted to wait until my 1 year post relaxer anniversary so I could to track my growth. However, I can't wait any longer.  Whenever I twist or braid my hair in preparation for a twistout or braidout, they look awful!  My shed hairs even get caught in them from time to time.  Ugh.  So, I'm gonna just do it.  I've changed my mentality about trimming and cutting my hair over the past few years.  I now think "Health over Length."  There has been too many times that I have held onto "damaged" hair because I was too concerned about losing length. The result was hair that wasn't cute at all.  In fact, on several occassions it was see through!  LOL  It is important to remember that the most beautiful hair is healthy hair.  So don't be afraid to trim or dust away straggly ends :)  Your hair will thank you.  Let the dusting begin!
