Hey!  We try to remain within a reasonable monthly budget... but sometimes things just don't go our way lol.  Anyone else relate? :D

"My nails are lookin' good!"

Hilarious. I'm letting a deep conditioner "marinate" in my hair now (saran wrap and everything; all I need are some tongs) and decided to watch you in order to inject some laughter into my day. You always deliver! Please stay just the way you are!

I haven’t eaten meat in over 25 years. I do eat fish and seafood, so I guess I’m pescetarian. Here are my tips:

1. Focus on eating lots of vegetables.

2. Avoid becoming a ‘carbatarian’ – making the bulk of what you eat carbs like pasta, bread, rice, pastries, chips, crackers, sugary snacks, etc. Ever notice that a lot of vegetarians are overweight? It is usually because they eat a lot of carbs and sugar.

3. Eat as much protein as you can. When you don’t feel like eating fish or seafood, try beans and lentils. Protein makes you feel fuller longer, which will help you avoid over-snacking. If you don’t like cooking beans on the stove, you can cook them in the oven. It’s super easy and they come out better (look up method on internet).

4. If you have trouble with eczema and allergies, giving up dairy may help. I rarely have trouble with eczema or allergies anymore; and when I do it is very mild. When I feel I have to have cheese, I buy goat cheese or sheep’s milk cheese. I also eat goat milk yogurt. I don’t seem to have any trouble with goat or sheep’s milk products.

5. Expand your idea of salad. Salad does not have to mean lettuce. You can use rice, beans, lentils, pasta, quinoa, or couscous for your salad base. Look at salads in the deli case for ideas. Also, using beans or grains as your salad base is a good way to use up leftover vegetables. Use dressings to add flavor and variety.

6. You can usually use fish or beans in place of meat in most dishes.

7. A good resource is the book ‘McDougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss.’ It is a vegan program, but even if you aren't giving up all animal products it provides good information on nutrition. (There is also a website now, which I haven’t checked out but might be a good place to start.)

I hope this isn't too long. Best wishes on your new journey!

Forgot one last thing: if you miss ice cream, you can eat sorbet or gelato. I know it's not the same, but it will get you through. If you have a NutriBullet or Ninja Prep, you can quickly make your own sorbet with frozen fruit, a little sugar, and a splash of water or fruit juice. If you don't have a NutriBullet or Ninja Prep, I'm sure Ty can find one for you on HSN. Lol!
