Shea Butter- LEFT Avocado butter- RIGHT
                                                                 Dr. Adorable brand (found on ebay and amazon.com)

    I love avocado butter for my hair!  I have been using it since September and haven't tried anything else until now :)  I chose to give shea butter a try because it is soo popular!  It is probably the most talked and raved about butter among women with natural hair :)  Needless to say, I was very excited to give it a try and I wanted to compare it to the avocado butter that I have been using.

HIGHLIGHTS (For hair)
Price varies :)  I tend to pay (on ebay) about
$9.50 for 8 oz
$11.99 for 12 oz

* Heavy butter with an airy or slightly whipped feel
(Oily feel)

* Easy to work into hair

* Little to no scent

* Doesn't need to be mixed with anything else

* Softens and seals hair

* Adds shine

*Would work great with other products

NOTE: I use about a dime size for my entire head with this butter. lol I suggest starting out with just a little and then working your way up :D

HIGHLIGHTS (For hair)
Price varies :) I would be paying (on ebay) about $9.90 for 8 oz
$10.99 for 12 oz lol

*Heavy butter that's slightly sticky
 (Vaseline like feel)

* Takes time to work into the hair

*Interesting scent (I'm not a huge fan lol)

*Many desire to mix it with other things because of the scent and heaviness

*Softens and seals hair

*Adds shine

*Works great with other products

NOTE:  Can be greasy if too much is used

   To my surprise, when I tried the butters out side by side( on my bangs lol), I noticed that there was not much difference between the two lol!  They both perform almost equally when used straight from the jar.  Although these two butters are VERY similar, avocado butter is still the pick for my fro :D  It's just soo easy to work with and it does what I need it to do for my hair.  My hair loves it!  So what am I going to do with the shea butter??? Although my hair likes it,  I think I'm going to use the shea butter for my skin... maybe feet, elbows, and knees lol!   I'm really glad I tried it out :D  Have a blessed day!

What is your favorite butter for your hair?

Hi Crystal, I love your youtube videos I've seen and decided to check your website. Could you add a comparison of the price of the two butters?

I wish these products are available here in Calgary, Canada where I live:(

You are speaking my language. I LOVE avocado butter and it's my staple butter and many times, all I use! I have been using it since the early internet naptural days when "fromnaturewithlove" was the site to get it from (Oh, how times and prices have changed lol). Anywhoo, I get the Dr. Adorable brand too! I sometimes order from Etsy. I love it, thanks for sharing your review!

Hello Kriss.
My name is Donnett, and i have been watching ur ever so inspiring videos, since i've gone Natural in March 2013< Sry if this is a bit winded, First of all, Im telling my self that I have 4C hair, but my hair is so nappy and course that I really dont think im on the charts lol. I have bought every things that u can possibly imagine to get the hair look somewhat tolerable and comforting to the eye, yet we are still fighting, I do my deep conditioning, co-wash, basically i do things the way you are, from watching your videos, I know you talk about the avocado butter and how good it is, that's probably the only product i don't own. im just writing you for some additional tips, on how to master this natural hair before I take a trip to the barber.

I really like your regime on the hair thing, its not complicated with tons of products like others, you just get to the point and make things simple. you are and inspiration to tons of us im sure, so keep posting. to you and the family have a safe and happy holidays.

Thanks.........Donnett

Hey Donnett!

I can totally relate! My hair is also naturally dry and I still get moments of frustration lol! In fact, I just posted a shea butter fail entry tonight lol. But I really just keep workin at it. In the beginning, it took like month before my hair started to feel decent and respond to the loc method amd cowashing. The best advice I can give is to keep trying until you find something that works. It will be trial and error but it will be worth it when you get it right :)

No problem Toy! BTW, here's the kind I get :) People have let me know that sometimes when they order from amazon the butter is hard. (There are different kinds :D)

Hey,Crystal.Thank you for the informative post!I just bought avocado butter from a local wholesaler after seing how well my hair responded to avo-oil last year some time.I mixed the hard butter with EVOO and applied it to my hair about a week and a half ago, but my hair still had the white residue the next day..Needless to say, I did not do my research prior to application, because then I would have seen "a little goes a long way"-laugh out loud!BUT WOW I was sooo pleased two days ago when I unravelled my twists and my ends were SUPER moisturised after only spritsing my hair thrice over the previous 10days!Wash hours(no more washday for me:)!) and detangling has been so peaceful. I thank and praise God this product is locally available, because my ends has literally NEVER been this happy!!...and my scalp is not itching anymore.My African hair is singing!!

Just a tip, use both mixed together! Avocado butter is an UNsaturated fat while Shea butter is a saturated fat. Unsaturated fats help deliver saturated fats....so your avocado will help deliver the fats from the shea butter into your skin and hair ;)
