Eden Body Works Coconut Shea Leave in Conditioner

Check out,  Eden Body Works Leave - in Conditioner (Coconut Shea) - Review - NaturalMe4C
    I have completed my Coconut Shea collection! I LOVE this leave in conditioner!  Seriously!  For me it was well worth the wait of trying to find it. This leave in has earned the love of Ms. Fro and a spot under my sink :)  For me, this stuff is da bomb!

Note: I haven't use this product with gels like Eco Styler, Fantasia IC in my hair... only creamy products. To see if the product work well with other stylers, here's a quick tip, try mixing a little leave in with your gel/styler in your hands (like you apply lotion)  to make sure they mix well before applying it to your hair.

Pros For My Fro

*  Inexpensive $7.99 - $8.99

*  Smells nice

* CRAZY slip for detangling

*  Nice weight/ stickiness to the product (it doesn't feel like plain water on my fro.)

*  Silicone free

*  Enhances my coils

*  Moisturizing

*  GREAT for my wash and go's  (I haven't tried it with a twistout)

Cons For My Fro

* Only 8 oz

* Contains glycerin (which as always can be iffy with Ms. Fro.  I'm hoping to be able to use this as it cools down...but we'll see!)

* I had a hard time finding this product and will probably have to order it at times.  (Sally's, CurlMart, Eden Body Works website)

Goody Ouchless Flex Updo Barrettes

8/26/2013

    I recently shared how I have been stretching out my true wash and go's into larger fros using the Goody Ouchless Flex Updo Barrettes (smaller size).  These clips have been around for a long time but I always but them on the back burner when it came down to buying them because of their price. They range $3.59 and up for two....and I knew I'd need waaay more than two. Plus, I wasn't quite sure how they would work for me. I was browsing Ebay and found a great deal on them (12 clips for 12 bucks or something) so I stocked up!  I initially got them to use during my cowashing sessions in hopes to avoid twisting my hair every time I washed it....but I haven't gotten them to work that way just yet because my shrinkage is MASSIVE when I was my hair lol.  However, I love these clips to help stretch out my hair without having to twist or band it up all the time... especially when it's late!

    They are flexible, and don't pull or tug on my hair.  They also don't have metal and are very gentle.  These clips save me time from doing my old stretched wash & go technique from April, all over my head... which was twisting my roots a few times down and leaving the rest out to coil. I still like to do that technique on my sensitive areas, like the nape and edges just to be extra careful. :)  But since my hair is getting longer, these clips now work for me.  BTW, I usually end up using about 13-15 of these to stretch my hair.

How I Stretch My True Wash & Go Into A Larger Fro

Check out, Stretching My True Wash & Go (Tutorial) - NaturalMe4C

    I like to stretch my true wash & go's into larger fros before I attempt to finger detangle it.  This makes things a lot easier for me to work out shed hairs and knots.  I also end up snipping less strands when it comes to removing complex knots or ssk's.  Yup, they happen!

Here's what I did:

The Results
(My hair was finger detangled prior to cowashing. I wore my hair shrunken for a day or so and then stretched it.)

   This wash & go above, was finger detangled prior to cowashing and stretching. The products in my hair are, olive oil, avocado butter, and Shea Moisture's Souffle and Smoothie.

 My True Wash & Go
(My hair was combed prior to cowashing and stretching my hair)

Picture
  As you can see, my hair has a similar shape to the wash and go above however, its much fuzzier around the perimeter and also doesn't have as much sheen to it.  All from me combing out my coils prior to cowashing my hair lol!  I love my hair either way but it's amazing how doing something so subtle can change the outcome completely!

A Few Blouses :)  (Good Will)

  I went to the Good Will today, in hopes to find a few shirts for Gabe and a few hoodies for me but was unsucessful :/  I did however, find a few cute blouses that I fell in love with.  There was no sale today but that's cool.  I spent $22.50...which is over my $20.00 budget I like to set.  It could be worse though lol!!!

Eco Styler Argan Oil Gel :)

8/21/2013

5 Comments

    As you may know, I have never really liked the Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel no matter how many ways I tried it!  However, I decided to give the Argan oil formula a try and what do you know?  My fro likes it!  It actually works really well for me and has earned a spot under my sink replacing the olive oil one that's still full after all this time.
Check out, Eco Styler Argan Oil Gel Review - NaturalMe4C

Pros For My Fro

* Lighter feeling on my hair

* Light scent

* Smooth feeling on my hair and hands

* Doesn't leave my hair extremely hard

* Firm hold

* Alcohol Free

* Cheap under $5.00 for 32 oz

* Leaves my hair shiny

* Contains sunscreen

* Didn't flake

* Plays well with my other products so far

* Contains glycerin which can be great for added moisture especially in certain weather.

Cons For My Fro

* Dries pretty crunchy  (Not as crunchy as the Olive oil one though!

* Contains glycerin, while great for moisture, it can be iffy for me in certain temps.  (Colder temps usually mean hard hair for me.  Warm/ humid temps usually mean soft frizzy hair for me. )

Refreshing My True Wash & Go

Check out, Refreshing My True Wash & Go (w/ pics) - NaturalMe4C

    I decided to show how I refreshed my Shea Moisture Curling Souffle/ Smoothie wash and go  with using steam :) I woke up to my hair smushed but the shape of my coils were still intact. It was also still moisturized from the day before so I just jumped in the shower and let the steam do it thing. After I got out, I was able to lift my hair with my fingers only and clean up my edges with a little Eden Body Works Control Edge Glaze.  I added a scarf to jazz things up for the day, and that was it!  Gotta love the shrinkage!  I must say there are waaaaay fewer frustrating hair days for me when I wear my fro shrunken. If it rains....its cool for my style.  If it's windy....my fro is chillin' in place lol.  If it's humid out... it's already shrunken! It almost can't be messed up lol!   Things like this reassures me that letting it do what it naturally does isn't a negative thing :)  It's the nature of my texture.

Jesus Feeds 5,000 :)

Check out,  Jesus Feeds Five Thousand - Bible Lesson
    Micah and I discussed the story of Jesus feeding the multitude of 5,000!  This is one of the many miracles Jesus did in the bible that  showed just how awesome He is!  Jesus took something that appeared to be "too little" and turned it into something extraordinary!  He shows us that even when we feel like we aren't going to have enough of something or we're in danger of losing it all, He will always come through for us and provide us with the things we really need.  Have a blessed day!!!

My Big Chop at 6 Months Post Relaxer (August 5, 2012)

         I made it!!!  I'm super excited that it's been a year since I did my big chop!!! Time flies!

1.  What am I happy about being 1 year natural?
  I'm happy that my hair is thriving without relaxers!  I never really thought I'd be able to have healthy hair without straightening it or something.  I was sooooo wrong lol.  My hair is loving being out and about and doing her thing!  I'm having a great time just letting my fro be.  I'm also happy that my hair has been maintaining its moisture year round :)  So the regimen I have stuck with this long has really paid off.

2.  Where is my current length?

    I had Ty measure my hair before my last trim (I'll be sure to post that trim video)  but my length was between 7.5 and 8.5 inches long depending on where you pulled the hair from. The middle of my nape was the shortest at 7.25 inches.  Prior to this past trim, I've had two previous trims that I took about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch off each time.
     On my journey, I'm not solely focusing on length... I want my hair to grow but I want to have fun and wear my hair in ways I enjoy as well.  I just want my hair to be healthy.  Who knows, I may get the urge to cut my hair out of no where one day just because lol.

3.  What have I struggled with?

  *  I've struggled with SSK's of course lol :)  Since I wear my hair out and about I'm sure to have SSK's.  However, people who protective style also get them lol.  They are just a part of having kinky curly coily hair :D  I just make sure I keep up on my trims to make life easier when detangling and styling.

*  FRIZZ!  enough said LOL!!!!

*  Last, I've struggled with the sensitive area in the nape of my hair.  I will be playing around with oils etc. to see if I can improve that area.  It's been that way FOREVER, so I'm not expecting too much change but I'm hopeful :)

4.  Am I making any changes to my regimen?

  I'm going to be sticking with both the LOC method and modified Curly Girl methods that I've been doing.  As far as products, Eden Body Works Coconut Shea Cleansing Cowash had become my No.1 thing to use for cowashing!  Yup it took over my Vo5!!!  I will still be using Vo5 but more than likely it will be as my second "condition" during my wash session.

    I will also be using something to clean deeper at least once a month .  Right now, the things I'll bounce between are Apple Cider Vinegar, Shea Moisture's Purification Masque, and Shea Moisture's Curl and Shine Shampoo. (Yup I'm thinking about trying my beloved shampoo again! I haven't used it since September 2012!  This shampoo is curly girl friendly and doesn't contain harsh sulfates, silicones, etc. )

    I also plan to deep condition more with oils to help with the thickness of my hair.  Right now, the only oils I use are olive, avocado, peppermint, castor, and a rare coconut oil (which I'm determined to make work for my fro lol).  I will be looking into other oils like jojoba, rosemary, basil, and tea tree etc. and choose which ones I think will suit Ms. Fro the best :)

As far as protein treatments, I will be lookin into using things like greek yogurt and avocado mixes for a gentle protein boost :) We'll see!

5.  Do I plan on protective styling?

    I have never been a protective styler. I've always enjoyed being hands on with my hair and learning how to handle it.  I loved phony ponytails when I was relaxed but that's about it lol. I've never had a sew in, lace front or anything like that.    Right now,  I don't plan on doing protective styles for long periods of time. I have a very sensitive scalp and I need to change the position of my hair frequently to prevent soreness and stress on my scalp.

    That's not to say that I will never do phony ponytails and buns again :)  I like them and am sure I will do them at some point.   I may try mini twists at some point just to change things up. And I'm totally going to have times where I decide not to remove my twistout twists and pin them up in some sort of style.

  I think there is more of a chance of me doing protective styles for an extended periods of time if I was away on vacation or something and didn't have my normal resources available to me and or I was going to be in the sun and water all the time. :)

6.  What are my goals moving forward?

    I want to continue keeping things simple.  I'm going to focus on the thickness of my hair and see if I can improve it a little. However, I'm not gonna take special vitamins, do castor oil challenges or things like that, but I will be incorporating more oils in my regimen.  My hair seems to be growing at a normal rate so I'm just gonna focus on being healthy as a whole and my hair hopefully will reflect that :)

Congrats to all those who have reached milestones on their journeys!!! :D  Rock your textures!
Don't forget to stay prayerful in all things...even hair!

How I do my True Wash and Go's :)

8/5/2013

0 Comments

    I have fallen in love with wash and go's this summer!  So I have been working hard to perfect a technique for me to get the look I like when I allow my fro to shrink.  I have had success with using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Curling Souffle this summer on my shrinkage! Those products in combination with my usual olive oil and avocado butter have given me awesome results.

    Note:  When I want my hair to remain coily I don't like to detangle with a comb prior or after cowashing my hair.  I use my fingers to remove shed hair as much as possible.  I like to use a detangling tool or comb like every other wash and go (if that makes sense) to make sure I get all the shed hairs out.  The wash and go that I do after detangling with a comb is bushier and less coily. So right now, I'm kind of alternating between a bushy wash and go and a coily one until I figure out how to recreate my coils quickly without gels.  (I'll be working on that! I'm sure I have something in my stash that will make my coils spring back after detangling with a comb :D  )

Prolonging my daily use of baking soda :)

8/3/2013

2 Comments

    Hey!  I've decided to continue using my baking soda/Cetaphil combo for awhile longer. The reason is, I had a major breakout recently after going to visit relatives and not being able to keep up on my skincare routine like I wanted to.  So I have quite a few acne spots I need to fade once again ugh!!!!!  Now that I know the baking soda and oatmeal regimen that I have been doing since March really helps me out, I will just keep doing it.

    I had planned to stop using the baking soda daily and switch to using it once or twice a week instead but I will continue daily, only at night, until I'm pleased with the dark spots. (For years, sometimes what works for me, is I dab a little toothpaste, hydrogen peroxide (the oral stuff, or 50% isopropyl rubbing alcohol to the pimples to help dry them out.  I use the 50% percent alcohol on my neck as a toner too lol. It's cheaper than most astringents which contain about the same alcohol amounts at times! SMH)  Just be careful when using those things :)

   It's on again dark spots! You're going down!!! lol
