I'm done with Summer Time Twistouts using Glycerin!

7/31/2013

14 Comments

    I give up!  Seriously!  I am going to stop trying twistouts using glycerin this summer.  Every time I do so, it goes up in poofs! (unless I use heavy gel or something...then it stays a little better but it doesn't feel as nice and is a little too "defined" for my taste.)
Other than that, my hair just wants to revert and go crazy.  Oftentimes, it balls up onto itself instead of reverting into its normal shape and it causes major knots and tangles.  I have broken some hairs trying to undo the crazy knots at times as well. SMH

    As, you may know, I love my shrinkage and don't have any issues with my twistouts reverting when I don't use glycerin in my products.  Normally, when my hair shrinks up for day 2, 3, and 4 it has a "unity" to it :)  However,  the newer products that I have been trying that contain glycerin has caused my fro to revert in a sporadic way!  It's seriously crazy!

    Certain products like Shea Moisture Curling Souffle and Curl Enhancing Smoothie, don't cause my twistouts to ball up onto themselves...it just bushes out.   Where as the Eden Body Works Curl Defining Creme and Pudding Souffle products caused my fro to ball up!   Even my Giovanni Smooth As Silk conditioner caused my ends to ball up when doing a twistout... but it works FANTASTIC for my true wash and gos.  I had a "sort of" success with using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Eco Styler Argan oil gel and tiny twists lol ... but it was not my favorite twist out "look" lol.  (I'll be posting that soon.)   I'm not sure how it would have held with larger twists, but I'm exhausted just by the thought of trying lol!

(BTW, I just tried the Shea Moisture Curling Souffle and Curl Enhancing Smoothie for a true wash and go and it works AWESOME for my fros' shrinkage!  I'll post a video for that soon as well :)

Twist out below is from using olive oil, avocado butter, and Giovanni Smooth as Silk conditioner, and 4hrs later lol!!!

  Hey!  So as promised, Ty and I decided to finally exchange foot massages, even though I'm sort of anti feet!  We had so much fun doing these massages, and I do feel good about giving it a shot, but it won't be going down like this for a good while lol!!!  Feet are just not my thing :D

I picked up the Tangle Tamer :)

7/25/2013

    Hey!  I stopped at Sally's today to pick up more Eden Body Works Cleansing Cowash because I seriously love that stuff and I decided to take a look at the combs and brushes.  Combs and brushes are not really a large part of my regimen lol.  However, I usually wear my hair semi stretched in twistouts so my fingers are able to do most of the work.  Lately, the styles that have been successful for me have been wash and gos and flexi rod/satin roller sets.  I have no problem finger detangling my rod sets because my hair is pretty stretched out.  For my  tight true wash and gos, although I have more trouble, I am able to finger detangle them... however, it takes a long time! So I wanted to see if I could find something to help me out with that.

  I ended up picking up the Tangle Tamer Max for $9.99 that is similar to the Tangle Teezer :)  I have heard both good and iffy things about the tangle teezer... most people like it and some people say it tore their hair up. :/  I have a specific plan for how I want to use this product lol.  I plan to use it on semi damp hair that has some sort of detangling aid/conditioner/oil in it. Trust, I will be VERY careful when using this tool. (Ms. Fro is sure to let me know if she likes this or not lol...especially since she has been very vocal about things like glycerin lately!)   I'll let you know how it goes!  Have a blessed day!!!

Eden BodyWorks Pudding Souffle and Curl Defining Cream (for my twistouts)

7/18/2013

    I'm glad I got the chance to try out these products because they are affordable and contain great ingredients :)  I have purchased all the products in the line but the leave in conditioner which I am going to get as soon as possible so I can review how the products work together.   In short, these products did not work well for my twistouts... the glycerin made my hair crazy frizzy once again and I had no control over it.  Both products are said to resist humidity, but my fro put up a huge fuss and rebelled for real!

    I was able to get 1st day hair, but no 2nd day hair :(    I am interested to see how these products would work on my wash and gos since using them for stretch this time of year is a no go for me.  Again, I will try them out again once I get the leave in conditioner (which also has glycerin in it lol, but I'm still hopeful!!!) Maybe once the weather cools, I'll be able to use these for stretched styles :)  So far, I give these stylers a 3 out of 5 because they made my hair feel soft and strong, but I didn't get any hold from them this time of year.

Still Playin With The Flexi Rods :)

    Out of curiosity, I decided to see what would happen to my hair if I used the rods without twisting my hair.  My hair still had a little wave from the twists but it loosened alot.  The results  reminded me of my old press and curl days lol.  I was ok with the style...sort of lol!  It was decent but just different then what I have been used to seeing over the past year :)  Although it was a nice change of pace, I quickly missed my kinks and cowashed my hair later that day.

Pictures of the results :)

Check out, Kriss & Ty! - Focus T25 Workout #1! (Attempt! Lol)
    We started the Focus T25 workouts a few days ago and wanted to share how it went with everyone!  OMG we were soo sweaty after this short workout!  I was amazed at how quickly it happened :D  The workout is both fun and challenging at the same time.  It's cool because most of time, the moves are done to a beat so your kinda dancing lol.  (For the record, I CAN'T dance so my coordination was all kinds of off! lol  Even with that, the sweat is REAL! )

   We invite anyone who wants to join in on the fun to visit,

Pics of my Current True Wash & Go :)

7/11/2013

    Hey!  I just wanted to share some pics of how my true wash and go's have been coming out :)  I co washed my hair last night after a Focus T25 work out ( I WAS DRENCHED!!!)  I let my fro air dry overnight and when I woke up, it was VERRRRRY smushed....VERRRRRY tight lol.  But after my shower, I was able to lift it up a little to give me some height.

    BTW,  There is no gel in my hair... only olive oil, avocado butter and Giovanni Smooth as Silk conditioner. I have been doing this daily for the past week in peace! (I usually only rock my full shrinkage for 1 day and then go back to twisting almost immediately lol!!!)    Honestly,  this past week has been helping me embrace the tightness of my fro more than before.  I love my length, but I also love my shrinkage.  :)

   Stretching my hair is fun and cool, but in reality, my hair naturally does this. My hair type is very tight.  There is NO HANG.  So why not try to get the "hang" of handling my hair this way?  I'm glad I decided to try to figure out what it needs to feel soft and moisturized. I'm still learning but  I'm going to get it ya'll! :)   Have a great day!

Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture  new Formula...

7/10/2013

8 Comments

    I'm gonna jump right in on this one lol, I do not like this new formula at all.  :(   I'm pretty bummed because I used this conditioner for soo long!  I even tried to break away from using it multiple times but always went back to it...  Well not any more!  It's good-bye to Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture :(  This formula did not work for me at all.  It's soo sad because I used to be able to finger detangle, deep condition, leave in, dry twist, wet twist ,and wash and go, with the old formula!  However, this one is just not getting it done.  From the lack of slip to the smell, my fro wasn't feeling it.  So I'm gonna be looking for a cheap all around conditioner that I can use just like I once did with this brand.

Picture
Picture

PRO'S

  *  Price -  about 5 dollars for 25 oz

*  Easily found -  Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, Target, Walgreens, etc

* Isopropyl Alcohol free
* Silicone free
* Curly girl friendly

CONS For My Fro

 *  Scent -  smells similar to the old formula in the bottle but once outside the bottle it smells worse! SMH

*  Thick Texture -  I thought this would be a good thing but it was not the case.  The texture of the product makes it so you have to use quite a bit to get coverage.

*  Very little slip -  It didn't help very much with detangling my hair.  It was kind of draggy and dry feeling :(

*  Didn't work well  as a leave in styling aid

*  Ingredients added may be questionable :/  (for example: DMDM Hydantoin)

*  Feels dry upon application :(

*  The texture almost evaporates upon contact with my hair :(

Sharing My True Wash & Go Puff :)

7/9/2013

2 Comments

    Hey!  I just wanted to share how my true wash and go's have been looking during my experimental phase :)  I have been taking a break from twisting my hair lol...especially since my twistout haven't been going well. So, I have done a true wash and go every day since July 5th lol!  This is a first for me because I usually have a LOT of trouble when I allow my hair to shrink fully.  But after my Fro Recovery Session, I decided it was time for me to master my full shrinkage lol.  After all, I am almost 1 year natural...I gotta learn it at some point :D
    I choose to re-do my true wash and go's daily because my hair is very very tightly coiled and this helps me keep tabs on tangles.  I have been using of olive oil, avocado butter, (which I upped the amounts of both to avoid the dryness that comes with my full shrinkage) and Giovanni Smooth As Silk conditioners.  I had two different Giovanni Smooth As Silk formulas (not my intention, but the company doesn't specify when changes are made... :(  ) So here is the formula I used for this wash and go.
Picture

My hair is about 95% dry :)  I was able to stretch it out into a puff!  (When 100% dry it shrinks to like 1-1.5 inches off my head still...which I have been rocking everyday except today.
My hair has done a lot better than it has in the past with true wash and go's.  I believe Giovanni SAS helps a lot :)

    I'm very shocked that I have had no issues detangling wearing my hair this way!  I'm loving it!  And best of all, I'm not fighting with my hair trying to keep it stretched. I'm just rollin' with it.  I'm hoping this will help me out when I'm working out and having to cowash daily.

  Good morning!  Today Ty looked at a very popular Psalm in the Bible (Psalm 23) and shared his thoughts on each verse.  It's soo amazing what you find when you look into The Word a little deeper :)  Many times, we read scriptures and even memorize them but never fully understand what they mean lol.   It's awesome being able to see how the scriptures can be used and applied to our daily lives.  We hope you enjoy this video!  Have a blessed day!!!

Fro Recovery Session!

7/6/2013

7 Comments

    Enough was enough!  Seriously, it was time for me to regroup and get my fro under control lol.  Weeks of trying new products which in some cases caused out of control frizz, poof, crunch, and dryness, had to come to an end!  So what did I do?  Yesterday, I decided to deep condition my hair FOR REAL!  I threw what seem like everything but the kitchen sink, in my fro lol!   First, I did a hot oil treatment, which I believe would be my second one since being natural.  I warmed in the microwave for a few seconds, olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil (which I don't use on my hair lol but it's really good for the hair and skin so I was like why not.)   I skipped the peppermint oil and castor oil this time because my scalp was fine but it was my hair that needed the attention.  I lightly spritzed my hair with water to plump it up a little and applied the warm oil all over my  fro and sat under a plastic cap for about 25 minutes.

    I rinsed it out and quickly co-washed my hair with Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner.
( I seriously needed moisture as the gels I have been messing with and the hot air made my hair feel dry.)  After that, I decided to do an ACV rinse! (Yup I was goin' in ya'll!)  I was playing NO games!  For the rinse, I used 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water.  I applied the rinse to my wet hair and let it sit for about 5 minutes.  I then rinsed my hair again and did a final cowash with Giovanni.  (I'm always a little cautious when it comes to vinegar lol.)

    To end my Fro Recovery Session, I decided to do a true wash and go with no shingling or gel and let my hair do what it has been trying to do for weeks...SHRINK!  I used olive oil, avocado butter, and Giovanni Smooth As Silk conditioner.

    I am soo shocked at how soft my full shrinkage is!  My tiny coils were visible and everything! There is even some shine from the oil/ butter I'm guessing :)   I'm in disbelief because usually I have trouble wearing my hair fully shrunken... but not this time!  I love it and I enjoyed rocking my super tight fro today.  My hair shrank to about 1 1/2 inches from my head lol!!!  But it felt and looked amazing.  You know what?  I'm gonna be embracing my tight fro more often because there are definitely times where I don't feel like twisting my hair...especially since my twistouts have been failing lol.

 ( BTW, after all this,  I'm totally thinking about doing more oil rinses in my regimen (especially if I'm going to be adding true wash and go's in the mix)  I'm also going to look into more ACV vinegar rinses because it literally helped get my fro back in line. )
