Today I'm reviewing Bare Minerals Hot to Trot Marvelous Moxie lip gloss set! Have you ever tried this brand? I mentioned before that I was looking into trying lip products that have better ingredients especially since I go through lip products soo much. I decided to try Bare Minerals out because they are known to be a safe cosmetic brand. This gloss set was a little out of my price point ($25 for 6 .07 oz glosses), but I picked it because you get to try out 6 different shades. I figured that this would be a great way for me to see what this brand of lip gloss had to offer.
Swatches from left to right:
Maverick, Smooth Talker, Smarty Pants, Crowd Surfer, Dreamer, Firecracker
1. I have a texture that is naturally VERY tightly coiled and shrinks VERY tight.
Although it’s around collar bone length, it shrinks down to a couple inches if I don’t stretch it. I honestly think that shrinkage has been a major help in length retention for me. It’s sort of like a built in protective style as long as I keep it moisturized. My hair is up and out of EVERYTHING’S way lol.
2. I can’t comb or run my fingers straight through my hair wet or dry. (And even if I manage to somehow get a comb through a first pass… it re coils onto itself and a “straight through” second pass is highly unlikely lol!!!)
That’s cool with me though! Combs have never really done me any good in the past… especially since I have fine hair. The fact that I can achieve rockable styles without combing my hair is AWESOME! Not to mention, I save myself from lots of unnecessary breakage. I don’t need to be playing in my hair any more than I already do. :)
3. It doesn’t have a high shine to it naturally and is highly textured.
I like to think of the look and feel of my hair as cotton or wool. Hey they don’t shine either and that’s cool! The feel of it tends to vary depending on the weather and the current state of my hair (shrunken, stretched etc.)
For my texture, low shine doesn’t mean it’s not moisturized or unhealthy. :)
4. It doesn’t showcase its’ length by hanging downward.
I love this characteristic of my hair because it allows me to have versatility. It’s awesome to be able to go from the look of a short cut to lengthy tresses with a small amount of manipulation. My hair texture can achieve almost any style I want. Holla!
5. It doesn’t really blow in the wind.
Oh well! I think wind is over rated lol. I used to have soo many bad hair days because of the wind while wearing my hair straight. Including my wedding day LOL!!! Since my hair is getting longer, whenever my hair is really stretched out and has a little more “move & shake”, I start dreading the wind. Gimme my fro lol!
Stay encouraged when you feel like there are too many things you CAN'T do with your hair. For me, once I stopped trying to change the characteristics of it, I realized that there are countless things I can do with it. I absolutely love the texture of my hair!
What are some characteristics of your hair?
Pics taken (with flash on) are of a full shrinkage true wash and go.
This is a true wash n go. On cowashed, non combed, wet hair, I scrunched in this order: Avocado Oil, SM Curl and Shine Conditioner, SM Curling Gel Souffle, and spritzed about 30 sprays of SM Hold and Shine Moisture Mist. (30 sounds like a lot lol but some sprays were lighter than others.) I sat under the dryer (low setting) til my hair was 95 percent dry. I did not stretch my hair at all. I just gently lifted with my fingers.
This is my FAVORITE full shrinkage wash n go yet. :)
The Headbands I got are from Dollar General ($3 each) and they are flexible. (They have a gentle wire in them.) I hope they have more colors!
I'm finally reviewing the Giovanni Direct Leave In! I'm very pleased to add this to my stash. Have you ever tried this conditioner out?
What does your stash look like? Do you tend to buy entire product lines or just a few things from a line?
I rarely buy entire lines lol. In fact, I've only done so with Eden Body Works Coconut Shea (2 products don't work all that great for me) and at one point the Shea Moisture Curl and Shine line. (They have since added new things to that line that I haven't tried yet.) Other than that, I take a lot of time to pick my products and choose the ones that I know I'll likely use. Since I don't shampoo, I skip on those items.
Also, I wanted to share an ingredient list update for the SM Olive and Green Tea Body Wash. They have new labeling and have replaced the 2nd ingredient in the list. What was once sugar beets is now coconut oil.
The old body wash had the consistency of honey lol....VERY VERY hard to get out of the bottle! Hence, my jacked up bottle, all bent n stuff! The new one has the consistency of maple syrup... much easier to pour out. No issues whatsoever. The old one SERIOUSLY burned my eyes if I was lazy and used it as a face wash and the new one takes a really long time before it stings my eyes. They both have an awesome lather leaving the skin soft and clean. They both have little to no scent. Bottom line, they both work awesome but I prefer the new one. :)
Good Morning!!! Christ gave Himself for us... why not give ourselves to Him?
(KJV) Galatians chapter 2 verses 18-20
18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Songs of the day: I Give Myself Away (by: William McDowell) & Here I Am To Worship (written by: Tim Hughes)
I LOVE both of these songs! Get in the spirit of worship ya'll!
Looking back at my TWA days! (Pics were taken around my big chop time and are of both wet and dry hair.) My coils were like non existent back then. :) I'm happy that my regimen has helped me with the response of my hair over time.
Also, here are some currents pic of a recent cowash with Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut Conditioner! I mentioned over the summer, that for some reason my hair loves this stuff and coils up like crazy when I use it! This time, I decided to use it for my entire cowashing session instead of only as a "2nd condition." (Pics are of wet hair with no product added.) I'll be rocking an unstretched true wash and go in Monday's video. :)
So how do you handle a situation where someone is messin' with you? It's time to talk with the boys about some serious stuff! Ty is teaching the boys how to handle themselves in certain situations lol. We hope you enjoy this video! :)
Hey! Just sharing some results from using Giovanni Direct Leave In for a wet banded
twistout. I like the results! My hair is more shrunken than say when I use Oyin Handmade products solely... but I think it came out decent. I will be posting my review for this leave in on Monday. :)
Products in hair: Avocado Oil, Giovanni Direct Leave In, and Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade. On
freshly washed hair, I added my oil and leave in then sectioned my hair into medium sections. On each section I added a little Burnt Sugar Pomade and proceeded to twist. After I twisted, I banded the twists for some stretch. The next morning I removed and fluffed. :)
Hey everyone! In this video, I share a way I achieve a high bun-like look on my fro. Feel free to make this style as sleek as you like! (I was working with hair that needed to be cowashed, but I hope you get the idea lol!) I hope this helps!
Happy Late New Year LOL! Today I just wanted to recap on some of the things that have happened with my hair this past year as well as share my plans for 2014.
My last trim was on December , 2013
As I mentioned before, I seriously needed this trim! I was able to prolong cutting the majority of the incomplete splits for almost 5 months so I thinks that's pretty good. The incomplete splits finally began to open up and split as well as break! So I had no choice but to cut some hair. I'm not upset at all because as mentioned before I like the 7.5-8.5 inch range anyways lol. In fact, I'm thinking about trimming more frequently to keep my sanity when it comes to detangling. :D
I'm pleased to finally be able to say that I am able to use products containing glycerin during the winter! YAY!!!!! Now this doesn't include all products of course lol, some still seem to make my hair crazy but product lines like, Oyin Handmade, Shea Moisture, and Jane Carter seem to be working awesome!
I'm not sure what the major difference is... but I think it may have something to do with the replacement of olive oil and avocado butter in my moisturizing routine. Since using avocado oil as the second step in the LOC or LOCO methods, I've had more success with glycerin containing products. (We'll see how my hair does next summer lol!!! Hopefully it goes better than last year!) I still LOVE avocado butter as it's multi purpose. Not only is it a great styler but it's awesome when I use it in my protein treatments. It works awesome that way so I may try to use it while deep conditioning as well. We'll see!
I have a couple goals for the year. Not too many!
1. Deep Conditioning
I want to step up my deep conditioning game this year for real! I've said this like 1000 times lol but I'm serious this time. :D Even if it's sitting with some Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner in my hair while wearing a grocery bag for 20 minutes before or after cowashing... it counts lol!
2. Sealing Ends
This year I plan on sealing my ends regularly. I really want to keep them in good shape. As I've mentioned before, I plan on trimming more often, so my ends should be well maintained.
Another Cut Without The Commitment!
I need to wash my hair, but I'm not really in the mood just yet. Sometimes playing
around with new styles on your "dirty" hair is a better choice because if the
style is an EPIC FAIL, you're gonna be washing your hair soon anyways lol. I
ended up with a faux bob- like do for the day. 4C Versatility! :)
God is simply AMAZING! Let’s take some time to appreciate His Wonders.
